As a high school athlete, I competed in football and was a thrower on the track team (shotput and discus). Unfortunately, I struggled with the mental and emotional side of performance. I always had a general curiosity surrounding human emotions and behaviors, but working through my own struggle gave me a deeper insight. Ultimately, this started my interest in helping others in need. At the University of Georgia, I double majored in psychology and sociology to gain an understanding of both the individual and social factors involved in personality and mental health.

Initially, I had intentions to pursue medical school. However, while working at inpatient psychiatric facilities, I recognized the importance of talk therapy and how it better aligned with my therapeutic approach. The combination of human performance and understanding emotions and behaviors was a driving reason I chose to earn my master’s degree in mental health counseling and sport/performance psychology at Boston University. I had an amazing time working with collegiate athletes, teams, and musicians helping them reach their goals.

Currently, I am a 4th year clinical psychology doctoral candidate at National Louis University in Tampa. My training has allowed me to work with clients from diverse backgrounds across various settings, including psychiatric hospitals, holistic health and wellness coaching, and college counseling centers. I utilize a blended approach of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My primary focus is on depression and stress management, exposure treatments for anxiety, mental performance, mindfulness and relaxation, major life transitions, and interpersonal / relationship issues.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two rambunctious dogs, exercising in the gym, watching various sports teams, or getting some much need outdoor time at the beach! Can’t help but live it up at the beach after cold winters in Boston.

Warm regards,
Christian
